Ultherapy® Pre and Post Care Instructions
Congratulations! By choosing to have an Ultherapy treatment, you are doing something wonderful for your skin. As the skin matures, collagen fibers that provide internal support become worn. Ultherapy’s ultrasound energy reaches deep below the surface of your skin to initiate your body’s own natural repair process. Over time, this results in the creation of new, healthy, strong collagen and a variety of positive skin changes.
Responsiveness varies from patient to patient and some patients may benefit from more than one treatment. In the early days following the treatment, patients uncommonly report some lifting, toning and plumping of fine lines. While this immediate “plumping effect” can be temporary, it signals that the beneficial process of new collagen generation has begun. Skin lifting is reported to continue to build over the next 2-3 months. Further improvements can even appear up to 6 months following the procedure.
Before Treatment
- You don’t need to do anything specific prior to your appointment. Ideally, come with a freshly cleansed face/neck/chest
- A topical numbing cream will be applied in the office 1 hour before treatment
- Ultherapy can be uncomfortable at times during treatment. We recommend taking 2x Extra Strength Tylenol 1 hour before, and 2x Extra Strength Advil 30 mins before treatment
What to Expect After Treatment
- Ultherapy has no downtime. You may return to normal activities right away. Skin remains intact, so you can resume your normal skin care/make up immediately.
- Flushing or redness should resolve within a few hours, up to 24 hours.
- It is not uncommon to experience slight swelling for a few days following the procedure, and/or tingling/tenderness to the touch for days to weeks following the procedure, but these are mild and temporary in nature.
- Occasionally, a linear pattern may occur in the treated area. This generally subsides within a few days to a few weeks. Contact our office if these occur and last longer than 4 weeks.
- Occasional temporary effects can include bruising or welts, which resolve in days, or numbness in a select area, which resolves in weeks. Raised welts can be treated with oral antihistamines if needed.
- As with any medical procedure, there are possible risks associated with the treatment. Scarring is a very rare occurrence, and will typically respond to medical care if needed.
- Temporary nerve inflammation is rare, and usually will resolve in a matter of weeks.
