Laser Hair Removal Pre and Post Care Instructions
Pre-Treatment Guidelines
- Shave all areas to be treated unless your hairs are very sparse and patchy.
- Notify the laser technician if you are presently suntanned.
- Do not bleach hair 1 week prior to treatment.
- Do not wax or tweeze the hair 4-6 weeks prior to treatment and once laser hair removal treatments have started.
What to expect after treatment
- Treated areas may be pink and swollen for several hours.
- You may notice dark specs on the skin immediately post treatment - this will fade gradually on its own.
- The hair follicle may appear inflamed for 1-2 days.
- Rarely, there is crusting or blistering. Notify the clinic if this occurs and apply Polysporin ointment to the area should this occur.
- Rarely, brown discolouration (hyperpigmentation) occurs after treatment. Notify the clinic if this occurs.
- Very rarely, there may be increased hair growth along the jaw line.
How to care for the treated area
- Cool compresses will help reduce swelling.
- Avoid Retinol, acids, and vitamin C products on the treated skin for 1 day.
- Avoid unnecessary sun exposure, and apply a sunblock (SPF 45 or higher) daily.
- If you have a problem with ingrown hairs, the physician may prescribe a topical medication.
